Professional Photographer of The Year 2013 - WINNER - Wedding Category
In a hurry? Then here's the short version...
A southern-softy now living in the Midlands. Extremely creative, love to keep things simple, completely obsessed with photography and anything visually pleasing. I say "aaaaah" whenever I see a puppy, and find nothing better than seeing a tear in the eye, and a smile on a brides face when they see their wedding photos I took. Have I got the best job in the world? Definitely!
Got more time? Then heres a bit more detail...
I've been a pro snapper since I was 17. After studying photography at college I worked as a studio assistant for a year which was one of the toughest but most rewarding 12 months of my life. I then spent 12 years as a press and sports snapper. During this time I won quite a few national press photography awards, including three Mirror Group awards, The Picture Editors photographer of the year award and Newspaper Society photographer of the year award. Shooting news stories for over a decade meant I was very fortunate to cover some amazing assignments. A regular week for me would normally consist of a couple of celebrity shoots, possibly a royal visit and always a trip to London to cover a Premiership football match. It wasn't all glamour and glitz however, shooting news stories also means you have to deal with tough, and emotional situations.
Photographing a successful press image is all about capturing real life as it happens and ensuring that your shot stands heads and shoulders above the rest. Being in the right place at the right time, and knowing when to press the button is vital to creating a single image that tells a story.
For the past 4 years i've kept myself busy by continuing to shoot creative and beautiful wedding images, alongside shooting editorial features for national magazines on a regular basis. This is where the wedding photography part comes in! It was my 12 years as a press photographer that helped me develop an ability to shoot weddings in a stylish, reportage way, ensuring that I capture every precious moment from the day, without being "one of those photographers" that shouts orders and spoils the day for the happy couple.
I'm a rare breed of photographer... I don't just like shooting weddings, I LOVE shooting them.
I photographed my first wedding when I was just 18 years old. I'm very passionate about photography and love creating beautiful images as much now as when I first picked up a camera. It's safe to say that I eat, sleep and breathe photography.
Other than taking photos, my other passion is running. I find it a great way of clearing the mind and keeping fit at the same time. It's also a fantastic way of finding new locations for shoots.
I live with my beautiful wife Clare, and our fat and over-attentive cat, Bailey.
Based in Nottinghamshire I'm available to cover weddings anywhere in the UK and abroad.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or wish to book me to photograph your wedding.
