2018 end of year review

Fun plays a huge part in my photography. Well, thats what a lot of my couples tell me anyway! And I like to think a lot of this end of year slideshow portrays how I capture all the happiness I see at weddings.

Putting together a slideshow at the end of the year is never easy. Mainly as I have SO many fun and creative shots I want to feature. Anna and I delivered over 40,000 images to couples this year, so choosing just three minutes worth of photos to show was really tough! What you’re about to watch is only a tiny selection of images that make me smile when I look at them… Just as much now as when I saw them happen in front of me.

To every couple that asked me to shoot their wedding this year, THANK YOU!

Thank you for booking me, trusting me, and just allowing me to rock up on your special day and just do my thing. Even after 20+ years of doing this I still continue to find shooting weddings a hugely interesting and fun experience. And when I get to spend so much time with couples that genuinely get excited about seeing what I see, it really does mean the world to me.

(And if you like this slideshow… you can check out a couple more of my previous years slideshows too… 2017 and 2016)

Trinity Buoy Wharf wedding photography London - Roisin and Sam

“Thank you so much for sending us the images of our wedding, we were so excited to see them and went through all of them straight away (and again that evening and the next!)

You captured our wedding in the most perfect way and we honestly could not have hoped for better. It's been amazing to see all the moments throughout the day, especially the ones which we'd missed ourselves!

Working with you has been an absolute pleasure and we're so pleased we had you as part of our day, you made us feel completely at ease, and from speaking to our guests, they felt the same too!”

Hackney London wedding photography - Heather and Alessandro

London weddings can be chaotic, fast-paced, trendy, colourful, action-packed affairs! And this one certainly ticked all those boxes.

Heather + Alessandro were such fun to spend the day with... and all their guests were fantastic too. I shoot 99% of a wedding in a documentary style (with just a tiny bit of direction chucked in when it comes to the portraits) which means wandering around making sure I'm in the right place at the right time, to capture all the emotions on offer. Shooting up close and personal like this can sometimes make people feel pretty camera-aware, but not this wedding... everyone soon got used to me hanging around, and welcomed me into the party pretty much from the minute I stepped into bridal prep.

I got to ride through the streets of London in a cool Red Mustang... witness one of the best confetti cannon explosions ever (not going to lie, I crapped myself when they went off!)... and then finished the day off with one hell of a party at such a cool bar venue.

Hev + Alex, thanks for having me along to snap your special day... and thanks for trusting me to just get on with doing my thing, and capturing such fun shots for you.

Ed, Honestly I am trying to put into words how much we love the photos and how grateful we are, but I am finding myself stuck - which for someone who garbles 120 words a minute usually, is not something I say often.

The whole process has been a dream, honestly. It's really odd how circumstance meant we were just unable to meet pre-wedding, but yet you just felt like part of the family on the day. Everyone that attended has commented how laid back and relaxed you made them feel, and that definitely shines through on the shots.

I myself am a millennial stuck in a cycle of constantly trying to obtain 'perfection' when it comes to photos of myself, due to the way that my generation are forced to act when it comes to things such as social media - and I was so nervous to see the photos without my usual hodge podge of VSCO and Instagram filters. It's so insane how uneasy losing control over the camera when it came to portraits of myself made me feel. But you have honestly flipped that upside down; I can't even fathom the fact that some of the shots you've taken are actually Ale and myself - they look like they've been pulled straight out of a NYLON shoot.

My dad commented that the whole photo set looks like a collection of stills from Reservoir Dogs, and my mum chimed in saying she got a real Wes Anderson feel from a lot of them. This alone sums up all we could have possibly dreamed for.

I cannot wait to show these photos to our grandkids when our tattoos are faded and wrinkled and we're trying to prove how cool we once were, seriously they are beautiful.

You've outdone yourself, 110%. Thank you 50,000,000 times.

Hev & Ale x

Devon garden wedding photography - Belinda and Jeremy

Belinda and Jeremy (from Australia and New Zealand) met in London... trained to be very talented animators, fell in love, and got married in Devon.

(My detailed storytelling seriously needs some improvement - Just trust me, and look at the photos instead)

With a handful of friends and family from across the globe making the trip to celebrate with them, they had a very colourful, and fun wedding! Easily one of the most relaxed weddings I've ever been lucky to get to document. Thanks for just letting me roam around guys, and snap your fun-loving day.

"Hey Ed, We stayed up way too late last night looking at all the photos, but it was totally worth it! You did an amazing job of capturing everything special about our day, and there are so many eye-opening shots here. We can't wait to share them with our friends and family.

Thanks again for being our photographer."   J & B

Devon festival wedding photography - Nat and Pete

I hope you're sat in a comfy seat, because this is my BIGGEST blog post ever!

A couple of months ago we headed down to Devon to shoot this amazing wedding.

Nat and Pete were the perfect couple. After seeing one of my weddings featured on a wedding blog they contacted me, and within a quick 10 minute phone call I was booked! Simple as that. They knew what they wanted, they liked what they saw on my website, and booked me straight away.

A few months passed and the couple saw that I was exhibiting at the Most Curious wedding show down in London, so they popped in to meet me in person. I love meeting my couples face-to-face before the wedding date. Even if its just for a catch up over a coffee. It breaks the ice, and makes it feel a lot less awkward when I turn up on your wedding day. Don't get me wrong, I'm not some sort of weirdo! Its just, well, if the first time you meet a photographer that's following you round all day, on one of the most surreal days of your life, is first thing in the morning as you're having your hair and make-up slapped on, well it may not be the most relaxing of meetings.

The whole day had a totally relaxed vibe, amazing scenery (the couple said their vows on the moors out the back of Nat's family home), and a whole bunch of guests that were up for having a great day... this wedding was fun-packed, emotional, and just totally awesome. Everyone treated myself, and my second shooter Kev like guests... which in turn helped us to blend in and get such relaxed and intimate photos. Cheers guys, we had a blast!
