2019 - End of year slideshow

I’ve edited and delivered over 35,000 images this year, so narrowing that number down to just 55 of my favourite frames for this slideshow was extremely hard.

2019 started off with my first wedding of the year on Valentines Day with a lovely London elopement. Made even more special by the fact that the couple only booked me a couple of weeks before the wedding day.

With weddings all over the UK, France, and Spain, I’ve really enjoyed visiting lots of new venues I hope to shoot at again soon. One thing I’ve really noticed this year from my enquiries is that it seems a new wedding venue opens up every week in the UK!

On a personal note its been a very joyful year with us welcoming our beautiful second son Jonah into the world in April. His arrival prompted me to choose to take on less weddings this year than ever before and it has not only allowed me to give my couples the best service they deserve, its also allowed me to spend lots more time with my family.

Unlike previous years I’ve gone for a bit more of a slow song for this slideshow. At just 2 minutes long I promise not to take up too much of your day. Even though its a shorter slideshow than I’d normally make, its still full of fun, emotion, relaxed portraits and most off all (and my favourite)… documentary style wedding photography!

Many thanks to all of you that booked me to shoot your wedding this year… I hope you love the moments I captured for many years to come.

I’m really excited about my 2020 weddings, and have still got dates available if you’ve not yet booked a photographer… just get in touch!

Have a great Christmas everyone, and a very happy new year.

Ed.

3 days of wedding fun in London and Barcelona - Poppy and Karim

FUN FUN FUN! That pretty much sums up the 3 days I spent shooting this wedding. Poppy + Karim are the nicest couple EVER! So chilled-out, loved-up, and totally made for each other. The love they have for each other (and their friends) is immense. They said they just wanted to have a great party with all their friends and family, and boy did they do that!

I could easily write a hell of a lot about this wedding, and also about this fantastic couple… but seeing as its probably the biggest wedding blog I’ve ever put together I’ll just shut up now, and let you scroll away, and be jealous that you weren’t invited to this stunning trio of weddings.

// HERE’S THE VERY LOVELY GOOGLE REVIEW POPPY+KARIM LEFT FOR ME //

We are so in love with Ed Godden. Booking him as your wedding photographer will be the absolute best decision that you make.

Ed is an unmatched and killer combination of incredibly talented, hard-working and an amazing eye behind the camera, together with being the most relaxed, kind and hilarious person.

The quality of his work - the colour, movement, vibrancy, wit and emotion - speaks for itself. We couldn’t be more delighted with the photos. On top of that he is a total pleasure to be with: friendly and warm, and able to put you completely at ease in front of the camera. It really is like hanging out with a mate. In another review someone said that it was like having a “super-talented best friend with ninja and mind-reading skills” – that is spot on! He is also very professional: he’s totally on top of all organisation and very trustworthy in that respect.

Ed kindly photographed not one, not two, but three events for us: he was equally as brilliant when it was just five of us cruising around Hackney, making jokes and stopping for beers, as he was when somehow capturing every nuanced moment of two 120-person-strong parties in Barcelona.

If you’re looking for formal family portraits or anything super traditional, someone else might be better for you. But if you’re after achingly cool, individual and hilarious photos of your human pyramid at 4am on the dancefloor, there is no one better. (Shout out to Ed’s incredible stamina for taking brilliant quality photos right through to when the venue finally threw us out!)

I won’t ruin the surprise for future clients, but the surprise pressies he throws in to the finished package are a lovely touch. My advice: book him now, and the more that you are relaxed and trust Ed to get on with doing his thing, the better!

The icing on the cake is that some of our best friends have now booked Ed for their wedding too (they actually made the booking at 3am on the dancefloor at our wedding, they were so impressed with him!) – so we get to hang out with him again in a few months’ time. See you in the human pyramid, Ed!

Trinity Buoy Wharf wedding photography London - Roisin and Sam

“Thank you so much for sending us the images of our wedding, we were so excited to see them and went through all of them straight away (and again that evening and the next!)

You captured our wedding in the most perfect way and we honestly could not have hoped for better. It's been amazing to see all the moments throughout the day, especially the ones which we'd missed ourselves!

Working with you has been an absolute pleasure and we're so pleased we had you as part of our day, you made us feel completely at ease, and from speaking to our guests, they felt the same too!”

London wedding photographer - Christina and Dan

“Thank you so much for taking such wonderful photos of us and our friends and family. We are blown away by how good they are. Even though we knew you were good - they are just perfect, and we are so happy. We fell very lucky to have had you to capture the day.

It was great also to see photos of the bits we weren’t there for, or had forgotten.” - Christina and Dan

Hackney London wedding photography - Heather and Alessandro

London weddings can be chaotic, fast-paced, trendy, colourful, action-packed affairs! And this one certainly ticked all those boxes.

Heather + Alessandro were such fun to spend the day with... and all their guests were fantastic too. I shoot 99% of a wedding in a documentary style (with just a tiny bit of direction chucked in when it comes to the portraits) which means wandering around making sure I'm in the right place at the right time, to capture all the emotions on offer. Shooting up close and personal like this can sometimes make people feel pretty camera-aware, but not this wedding... everyone soon got used to me hanging around, and welcomed me into the party pretty much from the minute I stepped into bridal prep.

I got to ride through the streets of London in a cool Red Mustang... witness one of the best confetti cannon explosions ever (not going to lie, I crapped myself when they went off!)... and then finished the day off with one hell of a party at such a cool bar venue.

Hev + Alex, thanks for having me along to snap your special day... and thanks for trusting me to just get on with doing my thing, and capturing such fun shots for you.

Ed, Honestly I am trying to put into words how much we love the photos and how grateful we are, but I am finding myself stuck - which for someone who garbles 120 words a minute usually, is not something I say often.

The whole process has been a dream, honestly. It's really odd how circumstance meant we were just unable to meet pre-wedding, but yet you just felt like part of the family on the day. Everyone that attended has commented how laid back and relaxed you made them feel, and that definitely shines through on the shots.

I myself am a millennial stuck in a cycle of constantly trying to obtain 'perfection' when it comes to photos of myself, due to the way that my generation are forced to act when it comes to things such as social media - and I was so nervous to see the photos without my usual hodge podge of VSCO and Instagram filters. It's so insane how uneasy losing control over the camera when it came to portraits of myself made me feel. But you have honestly flipped that upside down; I can't even fathom the fact that some of the shots you've taken are actually Ale and myself - they look like they've been pulled straight out of a NYLON shoot.

My dad commented that the whole photo set looks like a collection of stills from Reservoir Dogs, and my mum chimed in saying she got a real Wes Anderson feel from a lot of them. This alone sums up all we could have possibly dreamed for.

I cannot wait to show these photos to our grandkids when our tattoos are faded and wrinkled and we're trying to prove how cool we once were, seriously they are beautiful.

You've outdone yourself, 110%. Thank you 50,000,000 times.

Hev & Ale x

London wedding photography at the Asylum - Morgana and Raj

"Finding each other was so lucky, but finding Ed as a photographer is just being blessed!

Having Ed at our wedding has been like having a super-talented best friend with ninja and mind reading skills! Our pictures are beyond beautiful. On the day everything goes so fast that it would be impossible for us to catch every detail and moment. By looking at our pictures today we not only relive our special day, but realise how much of a fun and special day it was for everyone.

Thank you infinitely Ed."

Even before I set foot into bridal prep at Morgana and Raj's flat, I knew this wedding day was going to be laid-back, relaxed, and fun-filled.

From their initial contact with me, to the emails I received the week before the wedding, I was constantly re-assured that they totally trusted me to just shoot away, and capture their wedding day in a relaxed, reportage way.

Both Morgana + Raj, and all their guests were SO SO nice to me on the day... totally made me feel like one of the family... Chatty, friendly, and fun to photograph. Nobody took themselves too seriously, and nobody minded me snapping away, and getting up close and involved in the action on the hot hot hot dancefloor!

London pre-wedding shoot - Julia and Joe

Rain, wind, sunshine, and all the colours of spring. This pre-wedding shoot in Putney had the lot!

I can't wait to photograph Julia and Joe getting hitched at their venue overlooking the Thames this summer.

On a day that had a mixture of weather conditions, this lovely London couple didn't stop smiling whatever the English weather was chucking at them.

London engagement/proposal shoot - Jordan and Chris

Even though I've been taking photos for a living for over two decades now, shooting a proposal is something I've never done before!

I got booked by Chris to head down to London to photograph him and his girlfriend Jordan. The shoot took place just after they'd had a meal with family to celebrate them being together as a couple for 10 years. Unlike me, Jordan had no idea Chris was going to propose to her at the end of the shoot.

I love it when I capture people showing their true emotions on a wedding day, so to be able to see the tears and huge smile on Jordan's face when she saw Chris down on one knee, was something pretty special.

I can't wait to photograph you guys getting married in July. More tears and happy faces for the big day please!

Asylum / Trinity Buoy Wharf wedding photography - Cheryl and Alec

"Dear Ed,

Thank you for your fantastic work on our wedding day (and the engagement shoot too).

Your pictures are beautiful and you really captured the magic moments. As the photo on our Thank You card shows!

We loved having you as part of the day. Thank you Ed for doing a brilliant job. We love the photos.

Love, Cheryl and Alec"

Best of 2015

I seriously can't believe thats another year done and dusted! It feels like only last week that I was posting my last 'Best Of' blog.

This year has been amazing on so many levels. I've been lucky enough to travel and shoot weddings all over the UK, and abroad in 2015. Shooting a wedding in Sicily was such a great experience, and we also squeezed in trips to New York, Boston, Stockholm, Scotland, and not to mention our 3 week road trip round New England, yep, I definitely got around this year!

2015 has also seen me take quite a bold business decision, and cut back on the amount of weddings I take on. I do all my own editing, admin, and pride myself on good customer service, and this just isn't possible when you take on way too much work. Limiting the amount of weddings I take on has been the best move ever! I love meeting up with couples before their big day. Getting to know them, and finding out more about their wedding day. This way I don't just turn up on the day as a stranger with a camera.

I know I bang on about it all the time on my blog and on Facebook, but I really can't emphasise how important having a pre-wedding shoot can be.  A huge number of couples aren't totally comfortable in front of the camera, and having a pre-wedding shoot with me is the best way of getting over this fear. Seriously, it makes it so much easier for you on your wedding day. Because we've already spent a bit of time together its far more relaxed. I turn up, snap away, and you just treat me like one of the guests.

So whats in store for 2016? Another destination wedding, this time its at a stunning chateau in France. Trips to Rome and Geneva also in the diary, and I'm nearly fully booked for UK weddings too! I've still got a few random dates available, so please get in touch now if you want to book.

I'm exhibiting at a handful of wedding shows in the new year and would love to see you if you're looking for a photographer for your big day. Pop along to the Wedding Event With A Difference (in Nottingham city centre) in February, or The Pop-Up wedding fair at Calke Abbey in April. Or if you're down in London, why not head on over to the super-cool Most Curious Wedding Fair in March. I'll be at all of these!

All that's left to say now is a huge thanks to all you amazing couples that booked me, trusted me, and allowed me to shoot your wedding this year.

Enjoy the photos! (Ed)

A beautiful Berkshire wedding at The Olde Bell - Louise and Kevin

Back in summer I had the pleasure of heading back down to Berkshire to shoot the wedding of Louise and Kevin. They got hitched in the cute little village of Hurley, which is just a few miles down the road from where I used to live. I'd photographed a wedding at The Olde Bell Inn before, and knew that it was a lovely venue, with beautiful gardens. All I needed to do was keep my fingers crossed for some lovely summer weather!

Laura and dave - a nautical themed wedding in LONDON

There's only one word that sums up Laura and Dave's nautical themed wedding in London... and that's EPIC!

I knew after our awesome pre-wedding shoot down in Portsmouth that I was going to have lots of fun shooting these guys getting hitched. When I met up with them a few months back in Dave's hometown, we chatted over a beer and a delicious plate of fish n chips, and I found out exactly the kind of photos they wanted from their wedding. It was music to my ears that it was all about capturing the emotion, the fun, the love of the day! Not a total shock to me at all, as they were both very natural in front of the camera, and it was clear to me from hearing their wedding plans that the big day was going to be a chilled out, relaxed celebration.

So the big day came around quickly... and I'm not going to ramble on, I'd rather let the photos do the talking, but what I will say is - Dave, you looked extremely dapper in that suit and wicked chevron tie. Laura, you looked stunning in your corker of a wedding dress, with your colourful tattoos on show. You were both great fun to spend the day with, and the freedom and trust you gave me to shoot your wedding exactly how I like to shoot a wedding, made your wedding day one I shall never forget!

BIG LOVE... and can't wait to catch up with you guys for a few drinks when I'm down in London next.

THIS AWESOME WEDDING WAS ALSO FEATURED ON ROCK N ROLL BRIDE!
